Remote, hybrid, or in office? How many days tech internships and new grad jobs require
The work arrangements 1,019 open tech roles state, the office days they name, and which fields are most flexible.

The short answer
Most tech internships and new grad jobs expect you in the office. Among 1,019 open roles on November 4, 2026 whose application page states a work arrangement, 57 percent of internships and 60 percent of new grad roles were on site, 34 percent were hybrid, and only 9 and 6 percent were remote. Roles that say how many days in the office most often say three or five: of internship descriptions naming a number of office days, 35 percent said five and 34 percent said three; among new grad roles, 47 percent said five. Hardware is almost all on site, AI, ML, and data has the most hybrid and remote roles. So plan to be in an office at least three days a week, and treat a fully remote role as a bonus, not the default.
Where you will work matters as much as what you will do, especially for a first job. We read the work arrangements open tech internships and new grad roles state, and the office schedules they describe.
What we measured
On November 4, 2026, we read every open U.S. role on the SimplifyJobs internship and new grad trackers, the feed behind Arial's job board, that applies through Greenhouse, Ashby, Lever, or Workday. Ashby and Lever pages, and some Workday pages, state the arrangement as on site, hybrid, or remote: 650 internships and 369 new grad roles did. We also searched every description for a stated number of days a week in the office: 208 internships and 112 new grad roles named one. On site, hybrid, or remote
Scroll sideways to see every column
| Arrangement | Internships | New grad roles |
|---|---|---|
| On site | 57.2% | 59.6% |
| Hybrid | 34.0% | 34.1% |
| Remote | 8.8% | 6.2% |
Fully remote roles are a small minority, and slightly rarer for new grads than for interns. The tracker's own locations agree: under 3 percent of open internship and new grad postings listed a remote location. How many days a week in the office

| Office days named | Internships | New grad roles |
|---|---|---|
| 1 day | 2.9% | 0% |
| 2 days | 15.9% | 12.5% |
| 3 days | 34.1% | 24.1% |
| 4 days | 12.0% | 16.1% |
| 5 days | 35.1% | 47.3% |
For interns, three and five days are about equally common, and for new grads five days is the most common; hybrid roles that name a schedule most often say three. A few internship descriptions named one day. Five-day roles cluster at startups and some large employers, such as Applied Intuition, The Nuclear Company, ID.me, Procter & Gamble, and General Motors. By field
Scroll sideways to see every column
| Field (internships) | On site | Hybrid | Remote |
|---|---|---|---|
| Software | 57.4% | 34.0% | 8.6% |
| AI, ML, and data | 47.9% | 40.7% | 11.4% |
| Hardware | 80.6% | 19.4% | 0% |
Hardware work happens next to the hardware: none of the internships with a stated arrangement were remote. AI, ML, and data roles are the most flexible, with about half hybrid or remote. New grad roles follow the same pattern, with 90 percent of hardware roles on site. Let an agent apply where you can work
On Arial's job board you filter by place and by remote, so the roles you see are ones you could actually show up for. On jobs hosted on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday, Oracle, and Indeed, Apply sends the application through Arial: the agent fills in the employer's form from your resume and saved profile, including where you are located, and submits it for you.
Early-career tech work is mostly in person, at least part of the week. Choosing where you can be, and applying there, beats waiting for remote roles that rarely come.
